We love cheese! It adds pizzazz to any dish! Cheese can be pricey and often goes bad before we get to use it. Seems the more expensive the cheese, the more likely it is to go bad in my house! We just don’t use our soft and special cheese. It use to be frustrating problem… But not anymore!!

Thrive Freeze Dries mozzarella is my favorite of the day!

How many times have you been cooking or planning the day’s meal only to realise that you don’t have any Mozzarella Cheese? Now, because of the wonders of freeze dried foods, I have soft yummy always fresh mozzarella waiting for me in my home store.

Jaime at Thriving Food Storage, Posted this delicious granola bar recipe. I thought you might enjoy it!

Granola Bars

A few days ago my sister who has helped me with the design of my blog sent me a txt asking when I changed my blog.  I had no idea what she was talking about as I had not changed anything on it.  After a minute she realized she was at the wrong blog.  She went to self reliance by Jamie.I can see how she would get that confused with mine.  We have the same name and I sell Shelf reliance products.  Anyways I asked her to send me the link to the blog so I could take a look.  I was very impressed with what I was seeing.  I looked through her blog and found some yummy sounding recipes and great info.  I love a good food storage/emergency preparedness blog and another I have found.I am all about making homemade when I can.  I have been trying for about a year now to find a good granola bar recipe.  I have tried several different recipes and they have all tasted good. BUT when I go to cut them into bars they either crumble or fall apart when I pick them up.  My other problem is I compare them to store bought granola bars.  With these I need to remember that the homemade bars are not going to be like the store bought bars.  Anyways Jamie at self reliance by Jamie  about a year ago posted a recipe for granola bars.  They looked and sounded good so I tried her recipe yesterday.  Oh my goodness….I found my granola bar recipe.  Thanks Jamie!  These not only taste good but I was able to cut them into bars and they held up!!!Granola Bars

4 1/2 c rolled oats (regular, not quick)
1 c flour ( I like to use whole wheat flour)
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp vanilla
2/3 c butter, melted
1/2 c honey
1/3 c brown sugar, packed
1/2 c mini chocolate chips (raisins, craisins, other dried fruit, whatever you like!)
Combine all ingredients but the chocolate chips (or whatever you are putting in). Mix and then add the chocolate chips in and mix again. Press into a greased pan. Bake at 325 degrees for 18-22 minutes. Enjoy!!
**this is a basic recipe. . . if you like other things, try putting them in and make it your own recipe! Nuts, seeds, coconut, peanut butter. . . the options are endless!**
Don’t these look yummy!! I can’t wait to make them for my family!!

Let’s face it… One of 2 things (or both!) is happening in your home right now…

1. Your buying too much milk and it turning to cottage cheese in your fridge … Or…
2. Your not buying enough milk, and you spending way to much on ‘milk runs’.

Option one is disgusting and I don’t even wish to discuss it (I have opened way to many stinky milk jugs with out checking the date! YUCK!) We talked a bit about Option 2 in my post “The Home Store Savings”. No one likes putting pencil to paper on those figures!!

So what the solution? Keep milk in your pantry and you’ll never face rancid milk or the dreaded milk run again!!

I know what your thinking… Milk. In my pantry. Gross. More than likely, at some point, you have had that awful powder chalk substance some call ‘powdered milk’. It is gross. So, I understand your hesitation.

But this is NOT your grandmothers disgusting chalk milk! This is yummy delicious THRIVE Instant Milk! And it is YUMMY!!

We PREFER this milk to the milk we buy at the grocery store. It’s that good.

My favorite thing about this milk (other than the yummy yummy taste!) is that I do t have to worry about it going bad!! And I never have to worry about running out! This milk is just waiting for me in my home store. I can milk up one glass or one gallon!!

Why else do I love Thrive Instant milk?
What is one ‘sign of the times’? The cost of a gallon of milk. Milk is NOT getting any cheaper. And in all honesty,in times hard times, it’s often an item we have been forced to give up. Milk is healthy. It’s good for everyone in the family. It’s a ‘comfort item’ for the wee ones. It’s a staple to cooking and baking. Given the option, milk is NOT something I want to willingly give up. By stocking milk in my home store, I am assured that even in hard times, we are going to have milk & we are going to enjoy it!! (Your home store really is your food insurance!) A #10 can of Thrive instant milk makes 5 gallons of milk or more. When you do the math, Thrive instant milk is cheapest than out right buying 5 gallons of milk. And that is at today’s price. Thrive instant milk has a shelf life of 25 years!! Can you imagine what milk is going to cost in 25 years?!?! I’d much rather invest now.

Watching your figure? ( Aren’t we all?!) Thrive instant milk is FAT FREE!!! And has FEWEER Calories than skim milk!! ( Instant Milk 80 cal/ Skim milk 90 cal). All these waist benefits with the taste of real whole milk!! If you’ve some how become acclimated to skim milk, and prefer a weaker taste to your milk, your in luck, with Thrive instant milk, you determine how rich it taste! If you like strong creamy tasting milk, add a bit more milk powder, if you like a skim taste add less powder. It’s that simple!! And Thrive instant milk is loaded with calcium! And we all know calcium helps us too loose weight!! Use a couple of teaspoons of Thrive instant milk in your coffee. You’ll have great tasting coffee & be skipping out on calories, fat, & sugar in many coffee creamers & flavorings.

We love Thrive instant Milk so much, I almost alway add it to my Q, and still purchase it with hostess benefits as well! We use it all the time! (And it’s an item we want be be sure we have in ‘reserve’ in our home store for those unexpected scenarios)

Interested in trying Thrive instant milk? Let me know! I’d love to get you more information on creating your home store & send you a sample of our instant milk for you to try! I know your going to love it!

Each day during the month of June, I am featuring one of my favorite things about Shelf Reliance as part

of the30 days of Faves Blog Party at Party Plan Divas!

Today I am posting about my all time favorite thing from Thrive/Shelf Reliance:

The Home Store

Imagine walking into your pantry to find your own grocery store, stocked with all of your families favorite foods. Everything is fresh, ready to use, washed & chopped. All the food in this grocery store is free. You just grab and use what you need to prepare your families favorite meals. You have everything at your finger tips. Convenient and ready. All in your home.

This is your home store.

A Home Store is your essentially your grocery store in your pantry. It is your food insurance. In your home store you have stored all the foods your family uses and loves. Your Home store is the solutions to all the “What If” Questions.

With your home store you will never run out of milk or eggs.

In your home store you will have fresh fruits and vegetables always in season and already washed and chopped.

With your home store you never have to worry about sky rocketing food cost.

With your home store you are able to more easily minister to others, because you have food readily available.

With your home store there is Less Martha and More Mary, you are able to spend more time with your family and loved ones because your shopping, planning, and preparing are done.

With your home store, you have food insurance. No matter what happens, Job loss, a recessions, disability, or illness you will have nutritious food for your family.

Your home store contains lots of freeze-dried foods with a long shelf life. Your food store contains canned goods and quick meals you’ve stocked up on either through THRIVE or couponing.

The easiest way to build up your home store is using the Q. The Q is pay as you go Food Storage. Shelf Reliance helps you determine what and how much of each food you needThe Food Rotation system helps you ensure your foods are easily and properly rotated.

With the Q, everything comes to your door step! No crazy dashes around town for the best prices. No running into your ex at the grocery store. Just sit back and relax and let the food show up on your door step.

With the recent Tornadoes, Wildfires, and other disaster occurring around the country, many are asking the question “How Can We Help?”.

One of the greatest needs during a disaster is Food.

And food banks QUICKLY become depleted or the foods they have expire. The VERY BEST thing you can donate when it comes to food is SHELF STABLE foods.

Most Thrive foods have a 25 year shelf life, making them incredibly shelf stable.

Food is one of our comforts. During a hard period, little makes us feel as well as a good home cooked meal. Thrive foods taste great and are easy to prepare.

Keeping a home store, enables you to have shelf stable foods on hand to donate to local food banks or causes. You can also purchase Thrive products directly from my website and have them sent to the families or organizations in need.

During a time of need the second most common need is Money.

Thrive donates 5% of the profit from Thrive foods to their Charity: Thriving nations.

Thrive products are very economical, allowing many families to donate both food and money. Also, by maintaining a home store, you can make tangible donations without cutting into your budget. This also allows for more giving of financial funds when possible.

Also, for many causes, if you contact me ahead of time, I happy to donate a portion of my profits of the supplies purchased from my website for donation, to your cause. This allows you to make a tangible donation of shelf stable foods that are both tasty and nutritious, and know that the purchase of the products will generate funds to be donated to the cause.

Others Ways To Help

How many times have you heard of a young mother on bed rest, or a family who lost a loved one and wanted to help? Many times you’d like to provide the family with a tasty and comforting meal. However, you don’t have the meat, produce, or time to prepare the meal. And you certainly can’t tap into your budget for another trip to the grocery store. With a Well stocked Home Store, you have healthy, nutritious, easy to prepare foods on stock and on hand at all times. So cooking an extra meal or two is no problem at all.

A Home Store and Thrive Foods Allow for many ministry opportunities!

You Might could say its

And a Well-Balanced Diet

Gone are the days of the old food pyramid and the 4 Basic food groups.

The New Food Pyramid is a tool to educate people to eat a more balanced diet from a greater variety of food portions without counting calories. The USDA has now expanded the four food groups to six groups and expanded the number of servings to meet the calorie needs of most people.

The New Pyramid, or MyPyramid, is color coded. Orange for grains, Green for Vegetables, Red for fruits, blue for dairy, purple for meats and beans, And yellow for fats, oil, sugars, and basics.

Thrive has incorporated these colors on each label of their products. All your grains are easily recognized by their orange labeling, and your veggie by their green label, your fruits by their red label and so forth.

Our color coded cans keep your food conveniently organized while ensuring your diet contains the proper amount of balance and variety. When used in conjunction with our Food Rotation Systems, THRIVE foods are continually rotated, guaranteeing your family receives the freshest food possible.

Thrive has made planning, preparing, and storing healthy & nutritious meals for your family more simple than ever before!!

Using the Q is a great way to create your Home Store. It is pay as you go food storage!

We know you are busy! At Shelf Reliance we know you don’t have time for last-minute trips to the grocery store. By creating your Home Store you will always have the freshest ingredients when you need them! Your onions will already be chopped. Your hamburger meat will already be browned and ready to go! And you will never run out of milk or eggs again!

The Q is invaluable when setting up and maintaining your Home Store. Setting up your Q takes just a few simple steps!

Use The Thrive Planner

With the Thrive Planner all the stress is taken out of food storage. You want to be using the food in your Home Store, and you need to replenish this stock. With the Planner this is an easy task! Just enter in your families specific information. You input the “duration” of food you’d like to store in your family’s Home Store (For Example: 3 months, or 1 year). Next you simply input the age and gender of your family members. Using this information the planner assesses daily calorie needs. The planner also uses the USDA Food pyramid to determine proper food portions. This allows the Thrive Planner to  help you store the proper amounts of dairy, grains, fruits, vegetables, and other foods in your Home Store.

Add & Edit

After you use the Planner to create a well-rounded Home Store Plan, you simply add it to your Q. You can easily add products to your Q, or delete those you know you will not use. It is completely customizable. Keep in mind your family’s taste. What are your favorite recipes? Do you frequently run out of milk? Do you use lots on onions? If no one in your family eats olives, you may consider removing them from your Q. Here in the Crawford Home we eat LOTS of Strawberries. I fear one day I will wake up to a house full of family members who have turned into big plump red berries!! So, I have Strawberries as a top priority on my Q. This is your Q, to create your family’s Home Store. Customise it any way you would like!! If you have any questions, send me a message! I will be happy to help you create/edit a Q that is perfect for your family!

Set a Budget

Set your monthly budget. Think about how much of your food dollars you would like to reallocate to Thrive. Are you planning on using mostly Thrive meats? Will you be purchasing lots of produce or mostly using the fresh freeze dried produce in your Home Store? Remember, you can adjust your Q budget is needed, or even pause shipments.

Sit Back & Relax

Shelf Reliance will send your products right to your front door, on the day of your choose each month. No need to coupon or compare prices. No waiting in long lines at the grocery store. No last second dashes to the store for forgotten bread or milk. You just sit back, relax, and the food comes to your door! No hassle! And, as an added bonus, with the Q you can earn great rewards for FREE stuff!!

To get started with the Q, pop on over to my website Tawny’s Thriving Home and get started. If you have any questions along the way, I am here for ya!
